VerdictÂ
The Jeep Wrangler is undoubtedly the most iconic off-road vehicle in the world, but despite having all that fame, it is necessary to keep up to date because it cannot survive pure history. For this reason, at the New York Auto Show, the brand presented the 2024 Jeep Wrangler, the mid-life update of the current generation.
Overview
The visual changes are somewhat subtle in the 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon, but despite this, they are quite noticeable. In the first instance, we can see how on the front they opt for a new grille, which although it maintains the essence, now its bars are thinner and higher, and are also contrasted in black instead of going with the body color. This change will help provide better cooling to the engine.
Likewise, the traditional antenna disappears and is replaced with another one that is hidden in the windshield frame. It also maintains the option of having solid or fabric roofs.
Its wheels have new designs, 10 of them to be exact. While their sizes will range from 17″ to 20″ all will have tires with a certain level of improved grip for off-road, however, the versions with the Xtreme 35 package can have special BF Goodrich tires for off-road between 33 “and 35”.
More refined interior with new screen
Inside comes one of the most noticeable changes. First of all, it debuts a 12.3″ touch screen with better definition and more functions than before. The system it works with is the Connect 5 based on Android.
It will allow you to have wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and even an app that has 62 off-road routes saved with instructions and difficulty ratings to further encourage the owners of these vehicles to go on an adventure.
All versions will have softer and more refined materials on the dashboard, while others will even receive acoustic glass for better sound insulation.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon variants have always been characterized by being the ones that can go the furthest with the least effort. Therefore, these variants will have a new Dana 44 HD floating rear axle with this update. They will also already have an integrated tow hook that can drag 3,628 kg, a transfer case, disconnectable stabilizer bars, 33″ off-road tires, and lockable front and rear differentials.
Mechanically it maintains the options we already knew, starting with the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine that delivers 270 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. Next is the 3.6-liter pent-star V6 engine with 285 hp and 260 lb-ft of torque. At the forefront of the combustion models will be the 6.4-liter V8 for the Rubicon 392, in this case, it will produce 470 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque.
Finally, there will be the plug-in hybrid version of the Wrangler, called 4xe, which thanks to the joint work of the 2.0-liter 4-cylinder turbo engine and its electric motor, can deliver 370 hp and 470 l-ft of torque.
As standard, all of them will have more safety in the form of at least 6 airbags, lateral structural reinforcements, and advanced assistance in more accessible versions.
