Six years ago, the century-old Rolls-Royce brand embraced, like so many other brands, the SUV fever. It did so with the Rolls-Royce Cullinan, a model that is somewhat taller, squarer, and more robust than its siblings but which is capable of offering the same experience of luxury and comfort as we were able to see first-hand during our trip to Goodwood test another of its siblings, the Rolls-Royce Spectre.

Now, with those six years behind it, the time has come for a facelift for the Cullinan, which, after a few previous appearances, is finally being unveiled under the name Rolls-Royce Cullinan Series II.

General Characteristics of the 2025 Rolls-Royce Cullinan Series II

This luxurious SUV has received a makeover that, despite what it may seem, brings essential improvements to refine it further. Starting with its design, we find a redesigned front end sporting a more modern style, including a new bumper that joins the new inverted L-shaped daytime running lights at its ends and the lower air intakes, creating a kind of subtle V.

However, the most striking feature is the new style of the headlights, as well as the grille, which is now illuminated and offers a lower leading edge.

The rear end features a striking black bumper with new brushed stainless steel plates at the height of the exhaust pipes housed in striking square chrome trims. This new look can be accompanied by a paint scheme to suit the customer, which now includes a new shade inspired by brown marble.

The 2025 Rolls Royce Cullinan Black Badge, the most exclusive and high-performance version of the Rolls-Royce, is once again present. It offers black trim and extends the body colour to the bumpers and lower sills.

In this case, the New Rolls Royce Cullinan 2025 has taken advantage of the opportunity to update its technology, following in the footsteps of the Rolls-Royce Spectre with a renewed digital instrumentation and central screen.

Both now feature the new SPIRIT operating system, which was introduced in the brand’s electric coupé and which significantly improves on-board connectivity, including for rear passengers who can connect up to two devices to their rear screens and have a streamlined interface to manage all the comfort functions that this roll is capable of offering, such as air conditioning or massage, seat heating, and cooling.

It also now allows you to connect Bluetooth devices so that passengers can listen to music privately or do so through the spectacular sound system with 18 speakers and 1,400 watts.

At the design level, we now have, also inside, the figure of the Spirit of Ecstasy. This figure has been the fruit of four years of development and a perfect combination of analogue and digital craftsmanship. It creates a spectacular sequence of light as a welcome when you enter the car, from the central screen to culminate in the present clock and the Spirit of Ecstasy.

What remains, as always, is the sublime 6.7-litre V12 biturbo engine from BMW, with 570 hp and 850 Nm of maximum torque in its base version or 600 hp and 900 Nm of torque in the more powerful Black Badge, always associated with an 8-speed ZF manual gearbox and all-wheel drive.

The original Cullinan, launched in 2018, was the world’s first super-luxury SUV and delivered on a unique and demanding brief. From a performance and engineering standpoint, it had to have genuine off-road capabilities to match the most challenging and hostile environments on Earth. At the same time, it had to offer the brand’s unrivalled comfort and signature ‘magic carpet ride,’ regardless of the terrain.

It had to be nothing less than the ultimate super-luxury SUV – robust yet refined, unstoppable yet composed – effortlessly so everywhere. Its success exceeded Rolls-Royce’s most ambitious expectations around the world, and today, the Cullinan is the most sought-after Rolls-Royce in the brand’s portfolio.

Given the car’s extraordinary success and the incredibly positive reception by customers in every region of the world, it was with meticulous care that a new expression of the “Rolls-Royce of SUVs” was shaped. The brand’s designers, engineers, and artisans drew on half a decade of detailed customer feedback, intelligence-gathering from within the brand itself (including from our private offices around the world), and a host of new technologies to take Cullinan forward.

In its latest guise, which represents the most extensive development of the Series II in Rolls-Royce history, it responds to changing codes of luxury and evolving patterns of use while remaining true to the essential qualities that underpin Cullinan’s unprecedented popularity.

DOMINATING URBAN SPACE

From the first customer deliveries, the Cullinan served its purpose as a highly accomplished all-rounder, capable of taking its owner to places never before explored in a Rolls-Royce.

However, the model’s versatility and effortless all-around essence also made the Cullinan a ‘daily driver’ for many owners—indeed, numerous customers have told Rolls-Royce that no other SUV offers the same effortless performance as the Cullinan’s 6.75-litre V12 engine from what is typically a substantial and diverse collection. These were all important considerations when conceiving the Cullinan Series II.

The brand’s intelligence specialists observed that an increasing number of Rolls-Royce customers were concentrated in urban areas, from the world’s great metropolises to fast-growing cities in emerging regions. To that end, Cullinan increasingly serves as a super-luxury product in which customers wish to be seen and project their character, albeit with the ability to disappear into the wild at will.

Specialists also observed a trend towards owners driving their cars themselves. When the Cullinan was first launched, less than 70% were autonomous: today, almost all Cullinans are driven by their owner, with less than 10% of customers engaging the services of a chauffeur. Together with the rejuvenation of the brand and the ever-growing bespoke offering, Cullinan contributed to a fall in the average age of Rolls-Royce customers from 56 in 2010 to just 43 today.

An increasingly urban focus, a young customer group, and a decisive shift towards autonomous driving inform the surface treatment and detailing of the Cullinan Series II exterior. A key theme is verticality, reminiscent of the illuminated skyscrapers in the megacities where Cullinan increasingly feels at home.

This is most evident in the new light treatment, where the tall graphics of the daytime running lights ensure the Cullinan Series II is easily identified day and night.

The front of the 2025 Rolls Royce Cullinan Series II features simple character lines and sharp edges, with an emphasis on clean, monolithic surfaces that amplify the car’s generous proportions and presence.

The bumper’s lines form a shallow ‘V’ from the lowest point of the daytime running lights to the centre point of the car, recalling the sharp bow lines of modern sports yachts. Below, new air intakes angle firmly outwards, visually lowering the vehicle when viewed head-on.

The centrepiece is the illuminated Pantheon grille. This is the first time the Cullinan has featured an illuminated grille, which has been further revamped with a lower leading edge. It also incorporates a new polished horizontal ‘horizon line’ between the daytime running lights, providing a clear visual link to the brand’s flagship product, the Phantom Series II.

In profile, the Cullinan Series II reveals further surfacing changes. While the front wings retain their pure, vertical lines, the brand’s designers added a restrained yet precise feature line running from the taillight forward to the centre of the floating ‘RR’ centre caps on the rear wheel.

This creates a subtle taper and impression of movement, further amplified by the updated lower valance surfaces, which are raised at the rear. They are presented in a rich, high-gloss black, which reflects the road below, creating a sense of movement in these still shapes.

Viewed from behind, the Cullinan Series II’s exhaust treatment is a bold statement of power. Each frame is presented in mirror-finished stainless steel, cleanly integrated, and visually flush with the bodywork. The changes at the rear conclude with a brushed stainless steel skid plate that runs between the tailpipes and flows beneath the car.

To address this younger, more expressive evolution of Cullinan styling, larger 23-inch wheels are available – the first time the Cullinan brand has made 23-inch wheels available. Each wheel is milled from a single piece of aluminium, and the three-dimensional, faceted, seven-spoke design is available with a partially or fully polished finish.

In addition to the evolved exterior shape, 2025 Rolls Royce Cullinan colour specialists developed a new paint finish to introduce the Cullinan Series II. Inspired by a richly veined brown marble, Imperator Truffle is a minimalist and contemporary solid grey-brown; when combined with the Bespoke ‘Crystal Over’ finish, a lacquer infused with glass particles, it takes on a subtle sheen reminiscent of fresh snow in the morning light.

Innovative décor and detailing have been added throughout the interior of the 2025 Rolls Royce Cullinan Series II, reflecting many customers’ desires for bolder forms of self-expression. The most substantial change to the car’s geometry is the pillar-to-pillar glass panel at the top of the dashboard. This elegant and versatile design element stages both digital and physical craftsmanship.

The gauge cluster panel in front of the driver and the new, permanently visible central information display in the centre of the fascia are redesigned to form a stage for the advanced SPIRIT operating system. This digital interface was first introduced in the all-electric Spectre; Cullinan Series II marks the first application of SPIRIT in a V12-powered Rolls-Royce.

It also presents opportunities for bespoke personalization to extend from the physical to the digital world – customers can customize the colour of the instrument dials to complement the car’s interior palette or exterior trim.

SPIRIT also sees Whispers, the Rolls-Royce Private Members app, integrated into Cullinan. Customers can send destinations directly to their car, view Cullinan’s location remotely, and manage vehicle locking via the app.

Connectivity has been refined throughout the vehicle, particularly for the rear occupants of the Cullinan Series II. Customers can connect up to two streaming devices to the rear screens, which now incorporate a bespoke interface for car management and seat functions such as massage, heating, and cooling.

The installation of internet connectivity allows customers to enjoy a Wi-Fi hotspot connection and independent streaming for each screen. For the first time on Cullinan, Bluetooth headphones of any type can be paired with the rear seat infotainment system, or customers can enjoy the brand’s exceptional 18-speaker Bespoke Audio system, which benefits from the latest generation 18-channel, 1400-watt amplifier.

The 2025 Rolls Royce Cullinan Series II retains the brand’s celebrated speaker architecture, in which cavities within the car’s aluminium sill sections are used as resonance chambers for the low-frequency speakers, effectively transforming the entire vehicle into a subwoofer.

Directly in front of the passenger is an illuminated dashboard panel, an extraordinary expression of modern craftsmanship that debuted with the Ghost before appearing in the Spectre and is now, for the first time, available on the Cullinan family. In this form, it features an illuminated Cullinan word mark and a unique urban graphic inspired by the skyscrapers of the world’s megacities at night.

This is created using a specially developed technique whereby 7,000 dots are laser-etched into the back of the toughened and darkened safety glass, each at minutely different angles and dimensions to create the perception of depth. In addition to this ready-to-wear design, customers can also create their illuminated dashboard motif in collaboration with the brand’s Bespoke designers.

Next to the central information display on the passenger side of the fascia is the new Spirit of Ecstasy clock cabinet. This unique inset display case showcases an analogue clock and an illuminated Spirit of Ecstasy figurine. The figure is constructed from solid stainless steel and set on its stage with a matte black rear panel and high-gloss side panels to create a reflection effect.

Incorporating the Spirit of Ecstasy into the car’s interior was the result of four years of development and a unique partnership between analogue and digital artisans. Together, they created a dramatic and meticulously orchestrated flow of light.

This sequence begins with the driver’s display illuminating as one enters the car, followed by the central information display and then the illuminated dashboard, where the light moves inwards towards the display case, illuminating the clock. The Spirit of Ecstasy is initially illuminated from below, reminiscent of a spotlight at a debut performance, before the stage lighting fades to a soft glow.

To recognize Cullinan’s ability – and many clients’ desire – to escape into nature at will, the interior is comprised of a palette inspired by botanical elements. 2025 Rolls Royce Cullinan Series II features grey-stained ash, a natural, open-pored wood with rich grains and a delicate sheen.

All logs of this species are individually selected, and the veneer ‘sheets’ are subsequently dyed by hand and raised with the addition of microscopic metallic particles, creating a unique effect. This process took over four years to develop.

2025 Rolls Royce Cullinan Series II also continues Rolls-Royce’s textile exploration with a new rayon fabric made from bamboo called Duality Twill. This material was inspired by the extensive bamboo forest of Le Jardin des Mediterranean on the Côte d’Azur, which neighbours Sir Henry Royce’s former winter home, Villa Mimosa.

Members of the design team visited the gardens during a research excursion where they were inspired to develop a material made from the plant, which has grown in the garden grounds for over a century and would have been observed by Sir Henry Royce himself.

The twill weave is embroidered with an artistic Duality graphic. Based on an abstract interpretation of the brand founders’ two interlocking letters Rs, the design reflects an apparent nautical influence reminiscent of the interlaced rope lines found on sailing yachts – another subtle allusion to the French Riviera.

This intricately embroidered fabric was developed over more than a year in collaboration with a master weaver who has now joined Rolls-Royce full-time to oversee this complex process, which takes place at Rolls-Royce’s headquarters in Goodwood. An entire Duality Twill interior can incorporate up to 2.2 million stitches and 11 miles of thread, and it is the product of 20 hours of construction.

To ensure uniformity in pattern, each piece is individually crafted before cutting using a specially developed laser that seals the edge of the material and mitigates individual threads from coming loose. The twill base fabric is available in three colours (lilac, chocolate, and black), and customers can select from 51 different thread colours.

The 2025 Rolls Royce Cullinan Series II integrates another new contemporary handcrafted technique developed by the brand’s craftsmen: Placed Perforation, the practice of creating works of art through tiny perforations in leather.

Available for the first time on a production model, the designers have created a pattern inspired by the ever-changing shapes and shadows of clouds above Rolls-Royce’s home at Good Wood. It is made up of up to 107,000 perforations of 0.8 and 1.2 millimetres. A single craftsman controls each perforation to ensure absolute uniformity.

BLACK BADGE CULLINAN SERIES II– EXTERIOR

The Black Badge 2025 Rolls Royce Cullinan Series II asserts its presence with a striking frontal treatment. The main differentiator is the lower air intake design. These geometric pieces incorporate flared veins, signalling the car’s more urgent dynamic character. Above this is the brand’s iconic Pantheon grille, which has been illuminated for the first time on the Cullinan and Black Badge Cullinan Series II models.

The Black Badge grille is finished in the series’ signature black colour, although a silver ‘horizon line’ creates a sense of width and solidity while framing the car’s vertical daytime running lights. For customers who wish to conceal their vehicle entirely in the dark, it is also available in an all-black finish.

All exterior bodywork details and brightwork, including the Spirit of Ecstasy figure, are also finished in black. For the first time in Black Badge history, this now extends from the window frames and door spears to the door handles.

Each piece is hand-prepared by the brand’s craftsmen: first, a light abrasive is used on the handle to provide a key for a hardwearing primer, onto which four coats of black paint are then applied. After curing, these pieces are individually polished to ensure they match the rich, glossy bodywork of the Black Badge Cullinan Series II. Other blacked

Out elements, such as the tailgate and bumper details and the car’s exhausts, are treated with a specific chrome electrolyte to achieve the mirror-black effect. This is fed into the traditional chrome plating process and co-deposited onto the stainless steel substrate, darkening the finish.

Its final thickness is just one micrometre – about one-hundredth the width of a human hair. Each of these components is precisely hand-polished to a mirror-black chrome finish before being fitted to the car.

Black Badge 2025 Rolls Royce Cullinan Series II customers can now extend the exterior colours to all lower body surfaces, as well as the subtly enhanced lower sill, valances, and front bumper – a treatment reserved for the Black Badge Cullinan Series II. This visually lowers the car, creating a more dynamic statement that further amplifies its monolithic form.

The 23-inch wheels complete the exterior treatment—the first time wheels of this size were offered for a Black Badge car. From a distance, the design appears to consist of five spokes finished in gloss black and silver. In fact, there are ten interlocking spokes. The visual effect is created by a carefully orchestrated interplay between polished, painted, and recessed damaging surfaces.

The design also allows a clear view of the Black Badge disc brake callipers, displayed in signature red but also finished in black, turquoise, mandarin, or forge yellow.

BLACK BADGE CULLINAN SERIES II – A SUBVERSIVE INTERIOR TREATMENT

Technical and advanced materials have become a hallmark of Black Badge Rolls-Royce motor cars. This theme continues for the Black Badge Cullinan Series II. Customers expressed their appreciation for the Technical Carbon finish on the original Black Badge Cullinan; on this basis, this exquisite material has been retained for the 2025 Rolls Royce Cullinan Series II.

The bare-weave carbon fibre finish has been developed to create a precisely repeating pattern of geometric shapes that create a three-dimensional effect. Each sheet of Technical Carbon is finished with six layers of lacquer before being left to cure for 72 hours. Then, the 23 pieces are hand-polished to a mirror finish. This process takes 21 days in total.

If individual rear seats are commissioned, customers can include the Black Badge family motif, known as the infinity symbol, on the Technical Carbon ‘Waterfall’ rear section that separates the reclining rear seats and conceals the Cullinan Series II champagne fridge.

This delicate piece of aluminum is placed between the third and fourth layers of six layers of subtly tinted lacquer, creating the illusion that the symbol is floating above the Technical Carbon. The infinity symbol is embroidered on the lounge seat configuration.

Seats are available to order in the brand’s stunning new Duality Twill fabric—a new rayon weave made from bamboo inspired by the sprawling bamboo forest of Le Jardin des Mediterranean on the Côte d’Azur, neighbouring Sir Henry Royce’s former winter home, Villa Mimosa.

In the five years since its launch, the changes made by Rolls-Royce engineers for the 2019 car – including larger-capacity air springs to alleviate body roll and the addition of even greater reserves of power – have become integral to the appeal of this bold automobile.

These qualities are consequently retained in the Black Badge Cullinan Series II, including the 6.75-liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine, which generates a total output of 600 PS and 900 Nm of torque.

To take advantage of the extra power, the transmission and throttle remain calibrated for more immediate acceleration. The eight-speed ZF gearbox and front and rear steering axles work together to adjust the driver’s feedback levels, depending on throttle and steering inputs, without compromising the car’s effortless “magic carpet ride” experience.

Pressing the Low button on the gear selection lever continues to unlock further Black Badge technologies. When activated, drivers experience a change in tone and volume from the Bespoke Black Badge exhaust system, signalling that the entire 900 Nm of torque reserves are available from 1,700 rpm – just 700 rpm above tick over.
