We didn’t design a road car for the track, we created a race car for the road. Mustang GTD takes the racing technology from our Mustang GT3 race car, wraps it in a carbon-fiber Mustang body and unleashes it for the street.

Every precision piece of the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD is engineered with a purpose. Every form is driven by function. It’s designed to do one thing: go faster around a track with more technology than the race cars it’s based on. Mustang GTD was developed by many of the same people behind Ford’s Mustang race cars and the Le Mans-winning GT. It’s designed to be the fastest road-going Mustang ever.

The Mustang GTD is planted to the asphalt thanks to the astonishing force of gravity from active aerodynamics and the strong grip of massive tires mounted on an advanced double-height short- and long-arm front suspension and multi-link rear suspension.

It stops with authority thanks to carbon ceramic brakes, includes a rear-mounted 8-speed dual-clutch transmission and a lightweight carbon fiber driveshaft for near 50/50 weight distribution. And it’s all propelled to incredible speed by a symphonic supercharged 5.2-liter V8 engine with an estimated output of 800 horsepower.

We obsessed over the racing technology under the skin. What makes it tick is even more compelling than what you can see when it drives by,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance Motorsports. “When you look at the engineering, the aerodynamics, how the powertrain works, the Mustang GTD is a rocket for the road.”

Maintaining the Le Mans-winning Legacy

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD was born from the concept of the Mustang GT3 race car that returns to Le Mans next year and will be the apex of the Mustang family, which now includes both street- and track-legal race cars.

This family includes the recently revealed Mustang GT4, the Mustang GT3, as well as the upcoming Mustang Dark Horse R spec racer and more. All will maintain the Mustang’s position as Ford’s most-raced and successful model, and will be driven on streets and tracks around the world. The GTD name for this newest Mustang refers to the IMSA GTD racing class for cars built to FIA GT3 technical regulations.

This is our company, we’re throwing down the gauntlet and saying, Come and get it, Farley said. We feel comfortable letting everyone else know what’s coming. I’ll be taking track time in a Mustang GTD against any other number one in the industry in their best road car.

Designed through a collaboration between Ford and Multimatic, which developed the Mustang GT3, Mustang GT4 and Le Mans-winning Ford GT, the Mustang GTD represents the culmination of decades of engineering advancements derived from continuous learning through racing. Chiseling to Exploit the Air

The Mustang GTD’s design is pure purpose. Every line drives aerodynamic performance at track speed, from the front splitter, vented hood and fender flares to the available C-pillar-mounted, hydraulically controlled active rear spoiler.

The Mustang GTD takes advantage of extensive use of carbon fiber body panels to reduce weight, lower the center of gravity and improve responsiveness. The fenders, hood, decklid, door sills, front splitter, rear diffuser and roof are all carbon fiber with optional carbon fiber front and rear fascias.

An optional aerodynamic package, including an integral underbody aero tray is also executed in carbon fibre and includes features pioneered in motorsport as well as some technologies that even go beyond what is permitted in racing, such as hydraulically controlled front flaps to manage airflow for aerodynamic balance in coordination with the active rear wing.

Where there was once a trunk, there is now a semi-active suspension, a hydraulic control system and a transaxle cooling system that uses a race-inspired cover that replaces the trunk lid and includes two air intakes to channel air from the rear window into the trunk and through the heat exchangers.

Our design team worked closely with the Mustang GT3 design team and the aerodynamics team, sharing solutions between the race and street cars, and vice versa, said Anthony Colard, Ford Performance design manager, This is an aerodynamically driven design.

The combination of specially designed aerodynamic features will result in a massively balanced down force on the front and rear axles and in turn will increase cornering speed, enable consistent control and incredible lap times on the world’s most challenging tracks.

Extreme Performance and Technology

The hardware has been carefully selected and developed to enable incredible lap time performance, said Greg Goodall, Ford chief program engineer, The goal for this project was clear: go much, much faster than ever before with one specific target: sub-7-minute Nürburgring lap times. This makes it the fastest road-going Mustang Ford has ever built.”

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD uses a specially developed, supercharged 5.2-liter V8 with dual air intakes and the first dry-sump engine oil system ever installed on a street-legal Mustang to help keep the engine lubricated during demanding driving and sustained cornering. The engine’s 7,500-plus rpm redline generates exceptional sonic notes through the titanium Active Valve Exhaust system. It is the most powerful street-legal Mustang ever developed by Ford.

All of that power is sent from the engine to the rear wheels via a carbon fiber driveshaft connected to an 8-speed rear transmission for near 50/50 front-to-rear weight distribution. The selection of the powertrain and transaxle architecture to put power to the ground was a result of track driving simulations and powertrain dynamometer testing.

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD exceptional performance is further enhanced by a state-of-the-art semi-active suspension that can vary both spring rate and ride height. Adaptive spool valve damping technology with hydraulically actuated dual spring rate and height suspension provides two unique states that independently enhance on-road and track performance.

The suspension setup allows for a nearly 40 mm lower ride height in Track Mode and overall has a nearly four-inch wider track than the Mustang GT. A short-long arm front suspension provides enhanced lateral rigidity and improved kinematics, especially in high G-force cornering.

The rear suspension features an integral-link pushrod and rocker arm architecture where adaptive spool valve dampers and internal coil springs are arranged in a horizontal cross pattern and integrated with a strong, stiff and weight-efficient racing-style tubular sub-frame. The unique architecture creates a 1:1 pushrod-to-damper motion ratio so the car responds precisely to track conditions.

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD road holding and cornering stability are also thanks to 325-millimeter-wide front tires – as wide as the Ford GT’s rear tires – and 345-millimeter-wide rear tires mounted on 20-inch forged aluminum wheels or optional forged magnesium wheels. The magnesium wheels offer the ideal combination of weight and durability and are similar in design to the Mustang GT3 race car.

Carbon ceramic brakes, which are optimized to dissipate heat, leading to harder, more consistent braking. Rear brake heat is removed with the help of cooling ducts mounted beneath the rear suspension.

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD features new-to-Ford technology with Variable Traction Control in track mode. This allows the driver to push the limits of the car by modulating engine power and traction control input. Adjustments can be made without taking their hands off the wheel, allowing the driver to tailor their driving ability to the track conditions.

The cabin is finished with premium materials such as Miko suede combined with leather and carbon fiber, while digital displays keep drivers connected and in command. Track-day-optimized RECARO seats complemented by 3D-printed titanium paddle shifters, a rotary dial shifter and serial number plate, all made from recycled titanium parts from the Lockheed Martin F-22 fighter jet. The rear seating area has been removed to reduce weight and provide cargo space.

The 2025 Ford Mustang GTD will be available in multiple interior color combinations and in several special option packages that take exterior design to the next level. The car can also be ordered in any color, even the same color as a sample provided by the customer. These customizable options allow buyers to personalize their Mustang to make it completely unique.

The end result is an unmistakable presence, as close as possible to a race-ready Mustang GT3, but authorized for street use. Production of the Mustang GTD will be limited and pricing in the United States is expected to start at approximately $300,000 MSRP.

It will begin life at Ford’s Flat Rock Assembly Plant and then be transported to Multimatic’s Markham, Canada facility, where it will be hand-built with race-inspired precision by Ford Performance and Multimatic teams. Mustang GTD will be available in late 2024 or early 2025.
